What's Old is New Again... Check Out Our New Retro Fave T-Shirts!

As a wise person once said, "There's nothing new under the sun, so let's make a t-shirt about it!"

With that age-old wisdom in mind, FIC is proud to present some fresh and tasty new tee-shirt treats, featuring logos from days gone by!  They're old, they're new, they're comfy, they're cool, and they're ready to conjure up some nostalgia.  (You may even be inspired to have a refreshing drink.)  Let's take a look at some fun facts behind these iconic retro brands!

Hawaiian Punch Ringer T-Shirt

Fun fact 1: Hawaiian Punch started in the 1930s as a syrup to serve over ice cream!  It was found to be delicious when added to water to make a refreshing beverage... and thus began the illustrious history of a fun fruity beverage. 

Fun fact 2: This jaunty young cartoon gentleman goes by the name of "Punchy," and that red number on his head represents a palm-frond hat (often confused with antlers or a wild hairstyle).

Lucky Charms Retro Rainbow T-Shirt

Fun Fact 1: Lucky Charms burst onto the cereal scene in 1964.  The original version contained frosted toasted oat cereal with marshmallows shaped like pink hearts, yellow moons, orange stars and green clovers.  In the mid 1980s, they introduced blue diamonds, and continued adding new and different marshmallow varieties since then!  (Unicorns, horseshoes, rainbows, and balloons are a few examples.)

Fun fact 2:  Lucky Charms official mascot "Lucky the Leprechaun" (as seen on the tee), was briefly replaced by "Waldo the Wizard" in 1975. Lucky took back the reigns shortly after has remained on the Lucky Charms throne ever since.  All hail Lucky!!

RC Cola Me and My RC T-Shirt

Fun fact 1: As stated on the shirt, RC Cola (short for Royal Crown Cola) was invented by a pharmacist in Columbus, Georgia in 1905.  It became the first cola to be distributed nationally in cans. 

Fun fact 2: The catchphrase "Me and My RC" became popular due to catchy songs that appeared in many commercials in the 1970s.  Here's one!  Here's another one

Pepsi Ringer T-Shirt

Fun Fact 1: Pepsi was invented in New Bern, North Carolina by pharmacist Caleb Bradham in 1893 (hmmm... sounds a little like the RC Cola origin story!).  It was originally called "Brad's Drink," but re-branded to Pepsi-Cola in 1898. 

Fun Fact 2: In 1932, Pepsi took to the skies to become the first company to use skywriting to advertise!  Pilots wrote messages over the US, Mexico and Canada.

Gumby and Pokey T-Shirt

Fun Fact 1: Gumby was created in the early 1950s by Art Clokey.  Inspired by the gingerbread man, Gumby was a slab of green clay come to life.  His wide legs and feet serve a practical purpose--to ensure he could stand up straight during stop-motion filming. 

Fun Fact 2: Gumby made history as the only animated slab of clay to have a pizza chain...  In 1985, a restaurant called "Gumby's Pizza & Wings" opened in Florida, and expanded across the American east coast and midwest.  It still exists, and yes, it was Art Clokey-approved.

Orange Crush Logo T-Shirt

Fun fact 1:  Originally created in 1906, Orange Crush's commercial formula was taken to the masses in 1911.  The "crush" references crushing the orange peel to extract the tasty oils that give the drink its flavor. Orange pulp (without the juice) was also added to the formula.  In 1920, the formula was updated again to include real orange juice. 

Fun fact 2: Since the 1920s, Crush has expanded into many flavors including grape, strawberry, pineapple, and at certain times in history featured more adventurous flavors like chocolate, banana, and red licorice!

Mountain Dew It'll Tickle Yore Innards T-Shirt

Fun fact 1:  Created in the 1940s in Tennessee by bottler brothers Barney and Ally Hartman, it was originally intended to be a carbonated, lemon-lime flavored whiskey mixer.  "Mountain Dew" is an old slang term for home-made moonshine whiskey, and original logos featured a hillbilly-type character and the catchphrase "It'll tickle yore innards."  (Seen on this shirt!)

Fun fact 2:  Mountain Dew was acquired by Pepsi-Cola Company in 1964, and they dropped the hillbilly imagery in 1973, with the intent to appeal to a younger audience.

Distressed Dr. Pepper Logo T-Shirt

Fun fact 1: Dr. Pepper is the oldest major soft drink in the USA!  Charles Alderton (another pharmacist), created it in Waco Texas in 1885.  It was introduced at the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair, which increased its popularity. 

Fun fact 2: The formula for Dr. Pepper distinct taste is closely guarded, but it is said to contain a blend of 23 flavors.  It's speculated that these flavors are are:  cherry, lemon, orange, blackberry, raspberry, plum, prune, nutmeg, clove, coriander, ginger, cardamom, juniper, vanilla, caramel, molasses, amaretto, almond, black licorice, cola, root beer, pepper, birch, carrot, and tomato.
