Though it may not scale the lofty heights, of say, Crime and Punishment, 1984's Police Academy
is an arresting study in character development. Take Steve Guttenberg's Cadet Mahoney. Initially, he's a unwitting enlistee, a gleeful miscreant who dons the One in the Oven shirt in an calculated attempt to provoke a knee-jerk response from his instructors - on the very first day of class. Slowly, though, his rebellious side yields to his instincts to protect & serve. Overcoming a series of comedic gaffes and personal beefs, his true colors as an agent of law and order are finally revealed.
As with all of our creations, this one has been meticuously reconstructed by scrutinizing the source material. The messy, deliberately askew font, the brick-red lettering, the suggestive and off-center arrow - all of it is true to the spirit of the original. That's not to say that we haven't taken some liberties. True fans of the film will note that this cotton eye-candy was cut skimpy short at both the shoulders and the waist for its on-screen star-turn. In the interests of decency, however, we've added sleeves and a lower torso to our version. Customers are free, naturally enough, to customize as they see fit...
Truly astute observers of the pop culture canon might also recall that this tee was also lovingly lampooned in an episode of Family Guy
. The One in the Oven shirt is printed on white & black American Apparel ringer t-shirts.
