Halloween Wrap-Up, Part 3 (We Have A Winner!)

Well, look at what we have here…and to think that earlier in the week, I was bemoaning the lack of user-generated content.

Loyal FIC customer Travis W. from Jacksonville, Florida just submitted this snapshot of himself dressed as Chris Knight from Real Genius for Halloween. On the left, we have Val Kilmer looking effortlessly cool; on the right, we have Travis doing much the same.

The resemblance is striking, and I’m particularly impressed with the hair styling. Still, the gorilla shirt ties the whole ensemble together. Nice work there, Travis.

For his trouble, Travis will win the FIC t-shirt of his choice — proof again, that it pays to read It Goes To Eleven.

Post-script: We like to be thorough here at It Goes to 11, so I did a little follow-up Q&A with Travis about his Halloween experience.

On the comedic value of Real Genius: “[It] is actually one of my favorite movies ever, and I first saw it from the rental store when i was about 6 years old in 1986. I bought the Surf Nicaragua and Order of Gorillas shirts earlier this year, and ever since was planning on going as Chris this Halloween.”

On the Chris Knight costume: “A few of my closer friends who also love the movie did know who I was, and they loved it, but I’m sure the costume was lost on most other people. I also had on the Nike Airforce hightops he wears and slacks with a green shoelace. I did check out your costume guide, however I know the movie so well that I didn’t really need it, and I know there are probably 5 or 6 different Chris Knight looks one could pull off and I like the two you have listed.”

On future costumes: “I like a lot of the other guide costumes you had, especially the Axl Foley one. I’m planning on doing Cru Jones next year…I think Cru would be a good one to add to your list [editor's note: he's referring to the FIC Halloween Costume Guide], the rest of the costume is just stone washed 80s jeans, BMX gloves and a red bandana tied around the knee (as I’m sure you’re familiar with). And maybe walk around eating a bowl of KIX if you want to go the distance.”
