Best. Spoof. Ever.
Monday, October 20th, 2008I love ’80s vids, but whoever transformed this rather iconic clip into a Youtube sensation (1,000,000+ viewers) clearly loves them more.

Flying swordsmen? Chinese magic? Explosive martial arts battles? All this, plus a swaggering, wise-cracking Kurt Russell playing a parody of his popular “tough guy” character? What in God’s name is this movie?
That’s what American audiences and critics thought of director John Carpenter’s Big Trouble in Little China when it hit theaters in 1986. To put it mildly, the movie tanked like an anvil pitched into a well. But in the years since, this flick has gathered the audience it deserves, and has in fact become a bona fide cult phenomenon. Fans even quote Jack Burton’s (Russell’s) lines to each other and buy replicas of the tank top he wore in the film (hint! hint!). (more…)
Trolling the YouTube universe yesterday, I came across this embarrassing segment in which 80’s icon Mr. T — at the apex of his A-Team-era popularity — waxes on about the importance of confidence, self-expression, and d.i.y. fashion. His stage presence teeters at the intersection of the creepy and the absurd. No doubt about this, this clip is a great way to waste 4 minutes of your life.

Rip offs of earlier slasher films, it was in the vein of April Fool’s Day, Prom Night, and Return to Horror High. It’s sometimes whispered about and vaguely remembered by those chosen few who actually watched it when it was first released, before being lost to the ether. Some would say they wish it had stayed lost.

Kindred The Embraced
By Jessica Dwyer
With approach of Halloween and the recent influx of vampire shows on TV this year, I thought I’d go back to an oldie but goodie bloodsucker series that’s available on DVD. And no, I’m not talking about Dark Shadows. Back in 1996 White Wolf, the role playing company, was running strong with its Vampire The Masquerade game. Its popularity is still pretty strong, but back then it was hitting its stride…becoming for some a way of life.
The stories and mythos were amazing and have led to many of the new popular films and takes on the vampire and werewolf legends. But back then, Fox decided to give it a go and capitalize on the new love of this form of entertainment with an hour long drama based off it called Kindred: The Embraced.
