Put Your Muscle Where Your Mouth Is: 10 Great Workout Songs

Ever since New Year’s Eve, I’ve been hitting the gym like a madman. I trace this back to a few, interrelated factors: I was eating poorly; watching too much tv; lazing about in general; and I had a longterm GF (so I cared less about my appearance). That relationship disintegrated in rapid and spectacular fashion during the month of December, hence the need to rehab my image. Gotta look good for the ladies, yo!

My workout partner and I lift weights on Mondays (arms & chest), Wednesdays (legs) and Fridays (back & shoulders). I also compliment that with cardio sessions on the elliptical crosstrainer at least twice a week, ideally Tuesdays and Thursdays. Toss in some cycling and snowboarding and you have a relatively healthy lifestyle. Now eight weeks in, I’ve dumped 10 pounds and at least one belt loop. These early returns have come relatively fast and easy — this isn’t the first time I’ve worked out regularly — and old clothes that were bulging at the seams now seem that much more inviting and form-fitting.

The point of all this, you ask? Well, I’ve noticed that it’s essential to listen to music as you exercise, the better to help stave off any boredom or creeping sense of monotony. It’s also a good idea to vary your routine, lest you fall into a rut.

To this end, I’ve compiled a list of 10 Great Workout Songs that you will help you pump up and get ripped! Maybe not Hulk Hogan ripped, but beefy nonetheless. The boost in self-confidence that comes along with an improved body is immeasurable…

One final point: these are in no particular order.

1. Black Sabbath, “Iron Man”

A stone cold classic that will inspire you to get huge. ‘Nuf said!
