Coming Full Circle: The Return of The Noid
The vintage-cum-artisan-cum-limited-edition tee craze is showing no signs of abating. To wit, I present this redonkulous design, which features a throwback portrait of maligned 80’s pizza pitchman, the Noid.
You can find said shirt online here, but true Noid enthusiasts take note: stock is limited to a run of 1000, so you’ll want to order promptly (no word, however, if delivery is guaranteed in 30 minutes or less). Of particular interest to me, though, is the accompanying ad copy, which neatly delineates the quality control involved here.
ANVIL 6.1OZ RINGER 100% PRE-SHRUNK, RING-SPUN COTTON T-SHIRTS CAROLINA BLUE/NAVY, FRONT LOGO, POLYBAGGING
A professional product descrip, no? Clearly, someone’s been studying up on the finer points of the trade.
For those that don’t remember (or don’t care to), the Noid was a recurring character in a series of commercials for the aforementioned pizza chain. He was a disruptive blur of manic, comedic energy, eager to smash your pie and muck up your dining experience. Hence, he had to be avoided. At all co$t$.
For your viewing pleasure, I’ve embedded one such advertisement, conspicuously entitled the “Dome of Quality,” below (thanks, Youtube!).
Hmmn. This should be rephrased. The Dome of Qualitee, anyone? (Pun absolutely freaking intentional.)
To be fair, I should add that Domino’s is donating a share of the proceeds from this tee campaign to the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. As it benefits a worthy cause, we should at least try to suppress our snarky reactions…
In any case, what’s larger: your appetite for pizza? for nostalgia? for destruction?
Lastly, The Noid, channeled via a pop culture prism:
Tip of the hat to our friend Micah at A T Shirt Blog for the timely reminder!
