Beam Me Up, Scot-tee: 10 Shirts With Lasers

My friend Shane — who’s already the excitable type as is — absolutely freaks for lasers. The proud owner of both a Bachelor’s and an advanced Master’s Degree in Material Physics, he installs and repairs million dollar systems around the globe for a variety of corporate clients, and he’s not shy about saying so. Nor does his love affair with beamed particles end when the work day is over; cliché as it sounds, he lives, breathes and sleeps lasers, 24-7-365, surrounding himself with accoutrements of the trade as a reminder of his intellectual prowess. In his honor then, here are 10 tees, arranged in no particular order, that incorporate or riff on laser motifs. As always, click on the pics to link through…

1. Via Busted Tees, we have “Racecars, Lasers and Airplanes.” Considering that Shane just purchased a brand new 2010 Chevy Camaro and that he routinely travels great distances for his employer, this tee seems particularly apropos.

2. An awesome mish-mash of competing memes, Mister Mitten’s Big Adventure needs no introduction; astute readers might remember that we profiled this design earlier in the year.

3. On the surface, our International Order for Gorillas tee wouldn’t seem to have anything to do with the subject at hand. Dig a little deeper into the source material, though, and you’ll discover that said top was worn by Chris Knight, portrayed by a youthful, studly Val Kilmer, in the 80’s laugh-riot, Real Genius. For those that don’t remember, Knight was an eccentric brainiac, who’s specialty is… wait for it… L-A-S-E-R-S!

From the source material:

4. Duly noted.

5. I’ve been eye-balling this Terminator-themed shirt for some time now, for both my personal wardrobe and the FIC Superstore. In the name of market research, should we sell this?

Origins:

UPDATE: We have since added this to our online store. Find it here!

6. Our next entry, which made the rounds on tee blogs earlier in the summer, is a clever little parody that spoofs my beloved G.I. Joe.

7. Without doubt, the best laser-related application glimpsed on-screen is the Light Saber. Like any self-respecting Star Wars enthusiast, I’ve coveted a functional laser sword my entire life (or at least from the time I first saw the aforementioned film). Judging by the number of tee designs available online that speak to this fetish, I know that I am not alone in such thoughts.

Honorable mention:

8. In a similar vein, we have yet one more light saber-inspired design that also treads on a sneaky phonetic pun. That’s a pretty kitty, for sure, one that certainly gives new meaning to the term, the cat’s meow.

9. Han shot first.

10. Last, but not least, we have Laser Duck, which I would like to think is inspired by the NES classic, Duck Hunt.

I love #3! That clip also made me ask myself (once again) why I don’t own Real Genius on DVD yet.
