Trash Talk: 100 Movie Insults, Putdowns & Disses (SNSFW)

Saturday, July 3rd, 2010

As with any compilation of this kind, I might quibble here and there with some of the individual selections, but I can’t fault the enthusiasm, the concept, or, more importantly, the execution, which is seamless (the sequencing, in particular). Fans of the Found Item catalog will recognize many, nay most of these clips (especially those with an 80’s pedigree), but some are relatively obscure (in which case you can refer here for a complete list of sources)… and devastatingly funny. The language, as you may imagine, is profane in patches (and gleefully so). Enjoy!

I should add that the editor of said montage — one Harry Hanrahan — has authored a series of well-received videos in this vein before.

One can only wonder, however, why this snippet from Clueless was omitted:

“Why should I listen to you, anyway? You’re a virgin who can’t drive.” – Tai

Teeing Off: Holocene’s 5th Annual Mini-Golf Invitational

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

Golf? Uh, sure. On occasion. Maybe if it’s in hi-def. Or Caddyshack.

Minigolf, you say? Now you’re talking my language…

To this end, I’m really excited about the following event, which is fast becoming a Portland tradition:

The concept is simple: Holocene, an art space-cum-live music venue, invites a who’s who of local creatives to design and construct a hole of their own (13 in total, I believe), loosely organized around a shared concept (this year’s motif: Zukünftspielplatz, or Kraut for future playground). Cool bands and DJs provide the soundtrack, while Holocene’s excellent barkeeps turn out cold drinks. Fun is had, and hilarity ensues. Hi-jinxs Hi-Links (get it?) FTW!

$5 before 7pm, $8 thereafter…

Golf garb is highly encouraged, and apparently, rewarded.

Back in the FIC Store… while supplies last.

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

So, as most of you reading this knows, FIC sells t-shirts — t-shirts worn in some of your favorite movies, to be more specific. On occasion, however, we stray from this path and reproduce other props and garments glimpsed in or inspired by film: sweatshirts, caps, patches, even a well-received can cooler. For a number of reasons, some of these efforts are seasonal, available for purchase only at certain times of the year.

To wit, peep out the Bushwood CC Cap and the Iron League Patch, both of which have triumphantly returned as part of our annual Halloween campaign. If you plan on dressing like your favorite characters from Caddyshack or Slapshot (a pair of fine sports comedies, natch), these accents will bestow a sheen of undeniable authenticity on your ensemble.

Behold the regal simplicity:

Compare with the source material:

And now the patch, which commemorates the fictional league the Charlestown Chiefs played in:

Once more, contrast with the original:

If you covet either of these items (and honestly, who wouldn’t?), I urge you to buy them now. Supplies are limited and we will sell out — until next year!
