Rock the Casbah: Watch the 2nd Trailer for The Clash of the Titans Reboot

Sunday, December 13th, 2009

I’ve been sleeping on this film to date, but the newest trailer looks well, in a word, epic (and appropriately so). I’m certainly curious to see more…

Compare with the 1981 original:

Coming Full Circle: The Return of The Noid

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

The vintage-cum-artisan-cum-limited-edition tee craze is showing no signs of abating. To wit, I present this redonkulous design, which features a throwback portrait of maligned 80’s pizza pitchman, the Noid.

You can find said shirt online here, but true Noid enthusiasts take note: stock is limited to a run of 1000, so you’ll want to order promptly (no word, however, if delivery is guaranteed in 30 minutes or less). Of particular interest to me, though, is the accompanying ad copy, which neatly delineates the quality control involved here.

ANVIL 6.1OZ RINGER 100% PRE-SHRUNK, RING-SPUN COTTON T-SHIRTS CAROLINA BLUE/NAVY, FRONT LOGO, POLYBAGGING

A professional product descrip, no? Clearly, someone’s been studying up on the finer points of the trade.

For those that don’t remember (or don’t care to), the Noid was a recurring character in a series of commercials for the aforementioned pizza chain. He was a disruptive blur of manic, comedic energy, eager to smash your pie and muck up your dining experience. Hence, he had to be avoided. At all co$t$.

For your viewing pleasure, I’ve embedded one such advertisement, conspicuously entitled the “Dome of Quality,” below (thanks, Youtube!).

Hmmn. This should be rephrased. The Dome of Qualitee, anyone? (Pun absolutely freaking intentional.)

To be fair, I should add that Domino’s is donating a share of the proceeds from this tee campaign to the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. As it benefits a worthy cause, we should at least try to suppress our snarky reactions…

In any case, what’s larger: your appetite for pizza? for nostalgia? for destruction?

Lastly, The Noid, channeled via a pop culture prism:

Tip of the hat to our friend Micah at A T Shirt Blog for the timely reminder!

Worn Free (Quite Literally)

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

Much as Homage Clothing assiduously recreates old sports shirts or we here at Found Item Clothing (.com) lovingly reproduce tops seen in your favorite movies and television programs, the peeps at Worn Free breathe new life into vintage, and in some cases, highly iconic rock tees.

Using snapshots and other “archived” source material, they’ve resurrected dozens of shirts donned by musical giants like Iggy Pop, Frank Zappa, Joey Ramone, Blondie, Kurt Cobain, and more, many, many more. The majority of these designs graced said artists on stage, during photo shoots or other promotional efforts; in some instances, they have been viewed by millions of eyeballs — that’s no small musical legacy or degree of accumulated cultural capital. Even better, according to their website, these repro’s are completely legit:

All of the rock t-shirts and images we use are fully licensed from the estates and individuals concerned. We [also] have clearance to use all the photo imagery that we use on our site.

Late last month, I received a pair of rockin’ samples — Lester Bang’s Freedom or Death and John Lennon’s You Are Here — to review in this space. My impressions, both good and bad, are after the jump.

And, one more, this time with feeling:

New Shirt from Real Genius!

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

As some of you reading this are most likely aware, Found Item Clothing was accidentally inspired by a late-night screening of the 80’s cult classic, Real Genius. Chris Knight, the film’s rakish and eccentric lead (portrayed by a young Val Kilmer), exhibits some real sartorial flair; every one of his assorted tees is offbeat and sui generis, a perfect distillation of his character’s personality, quirks and all. In any case, the initial success of two shirts from that flick — I Heart Toxic Waste and Surf Nicaragua — yielded two more — International Order For Gorillas and Summer Games 1984. 50 shirts (give or take a few) and three websites later, the rest, as they say, is history…

Bringing this thread full circle, then, we’re proud to announce the Roy Rogers shirt, the fifth gem from Real Genius to receive the royal FIC treatment. As the last remaining shirt from this film to be recreated and the end product of 5 years of dogged trial & error, it marks something of a company milestone. (On an aside, let’s hope that rumored sequel sees the light of day sometime in the near future, with a batch of fun new shirts in tow). We are nothing, if not thorough… extremely thorough.

Best. Spoof. Ever.

I love ’80s vids, but whoever transformed this rather iconic clip into a Youtube sensation (1,000,000+ viewers) clearly loves them more.
